Officers' Bios


Patricia Fox President

Patricia Fox has served on the board of directors for the Orange Country Reading Council for three years and is currently the President. She is employed by Orange County Public Schools and is on the District’s Secondary Literacy Team. Prior to her current position, she was the Reading Coach/Curriculum Resource Teacher at Winter Park High School where she helped lead the WPHS Literacy Council to the State finals in the Just Read, Florida! Literacy Awards two years in a row. Patricia is the former recipient of the Orange County Beginning Language Arts Teacher of the Year Award and has presented at many conferences including Fame, Just Read, Florida! and the OCPS Back to School Conferences.She is a graduate of Arizona State University and is certified in English, Reading, and ESOL.

 

Michael Boergers President-Elect

Michael Boergers is currently employed by Orange County public Schools and is on the District’s Secondary Literacy Team. Prior to this position, he was the Reading Coach at Jackson Middle School for seven years. He has presented at Just Read, Florida conferences, is a district trainer for Reading Endorsement, Car-PD, Thinking Maps and is an Advanced Master Trainer for the Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading.He graduated from Medaille College and is certified in Reading and Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum

 

Cherie Behrens Vice President

Cherie Behrens is currently the Vice President of the Orange County Reading Council and a member of the District’s Secondary Literacy Team.  Prior to her current position she taught 5th grade students at Metro West Elementary School, was a reading coach at Lockhart Middle School, and was a continuing education instructor, teaching Adult ESOL, at Westside Technical School. Cherie has twice been nominated for teacher of the year, has been a team leader, and was a reading grant recipient at Metro West Elementary School.  A highlight of her career was presenting at the August 2008 “Back to School” preplanning conference for Orange County Public Schools. Cherie is a certified Clinical Educator and holds certification in Reading K-12, Elementary Education Grades 1-6, and is also ESOL Endorsed.  She has an undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University, a graduate degree from the University of Central Florida, and is currently in her third year as a doctoral student at the University of Central Florida.
